Installation of IIS 5.1 on Windows XP

The following directions assume that IIS version 5.1 is to be installed on a MS Windows XP PC.

  1. Execute [START], [CONTROL PANEL], [ADD or REMOVE PROGRAMS], [ADD/REMOVE WINDOWS PROGRAMS]

  2. Select Internet Information Server [IIS]

  3. Click [Details]

  4. Select
    • Common files
    • Documentation
    • Front Page 2000 Server Extensions
    • Internet Information Server Snap-in
    • SMTP Services
    • World Wide Web Services


  5. Execute [OK], [NEXT], [FINISH]

  6. Windows will install IIS automatically.

To test installation:

Open web browser to either http://localhost/postinfo.html or http://<computer name>/postinfo.html, should return a document titled "Web Posting Information."

To administer IIS

Execute [START], [CONTROL PANEL], [ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS], [INTERNET INFORMATION SERVICES]

Navigate through computer name, web sites, default web sites. Right click to get to properties.
